It has been quite the challenge, and I've got to admit my mum still gets daily text messages for advice on how to do things.
Currently I am job seeking, not getting up till the afternoon and just watching television all day. Most people would cheer at the thought of being able to do this but I can't stand it! I wish so badly that I could be working! I had a job back home and had been working there for more than three years before I moved. After my job transfer fell through i have joined the world of the unemployed and I hate it. I spend pretty much an hour or two a day applying for jobs before I get too anxious and give up. I am hoping that this changes!
Its also been really difficult adjusting to not having friends and a large family close by. My three housemates have been so wonderful for the last three weeks, making me feel loved and caring for me but its not really the same thing you know? Yes I love them all to bits but I would love to just be able to text one of my best friends again saying that I'm on my way over to their place and we shall be spending the day together (not those words exactly but you get the point)
I've started to finally unpack the boxes of books and things that I have. My brother (one of my housemates) helped me set up my bookcase and desk yesterday so i can finally unpack and make myself feel like I am more at home which was so nice of him.
Now enough complaining!
Some good things that are happening for me right now and that I love about my new home!
There is this beautiful park right near my house, its got a huge pond and creepy statues of native Australian animals which look horrifically real from a distance. There's this really cute cafe there as well which sells really good food and drinks. The pond is also home to ducklings and turtles which are so adorable! It's one of my favourite places to visit.
Public transport!
The public transport here is so good! It runs regularly and on time which is a really big change!
You also meet some really cool people on the trams and things. The other day i met an old man who didn't have all of his bottom jaw. He was really nice and we talked for a while which was cool.
Music!
Living with my housemates has really helped me find other musicians and just enjoy listening to music a lot more. Currently while I write this I am listening to my 'James Bay' playlist. For those of you who have never heard him should! He is a British folkish singer. All the new music has given me more ideas for covers and things.
The People!
The people here are so friendly! Its crazy how nice they are. They genuinely talk to you and use manners and things, it's a noticeable difference which is kind of sad but a real big bonus.
and Finally
The Shops!
All of the shops here are very different from home. There are more of them and they are everywhere. Its great especially when you go on big shopping trips or are just looking for something to do that day. They are well stocked and the clothes stores have some really great new things. There's a huge H&M in the city which is like 3 or 4 floors high and one of the busiest places I have ever been to. There's also the fruit and veg markets where the deals are crazy good and the produce is fantastic (for the most part)
Living out of home, although its been a challenge so far, I am loving every second of it. It is exciting and demanding, but overall rewarding and fun.
Missing home, friends and family greatly though.
Hopefully I'll visit soon.
